DANDENONG jeweller Joe Mastroianni was only too eager to get on board when he was offered a free makeover for the window of his Walker St shop.
The Austgold jewellery shop co-owner was one of seven shopkeepers to have their front window revamped as part of a council and VicUrban initiative to revitalise retail strips.
His aging shop signage was replaced and new colours and display boxes were in stalled over about two weeks.
"It looks different, doesn't it?" Mr Mastroianni said."We reckon it looks fantastic."
A cake shop, bridal boutique and travel agent were among the other participating retailers.
Revitalising Central Dandenong place manager Jenny Pemberton-Webb said the shops were given a professional touch and an "injection of creativity".
This project is about giving retailers the skills and confidence to experiment with their shop presentation and catch the attention of passers-by," she said.
The project's success will be monitored in coming months and it could be rolled out across other parts of central Dandenong.
