Found and foraged materials form the backbone of these textural collages. European silk remnants, velvets, suede and high-fashion garments made with luxury fabrics are deconstructed and repurposed. Mia begins her creative processwith the materials in her hands, transferring the stories imbued in their fibres into the finished artworks.
Working intuitively with the materials, Mia creates folds, patterns and dialogue between colours and textures. Stitched by both hand and machine, these tumbling fabric forms are held by a firm boundary created by their wood base and copper frame.
Minuet 1 & 2 form a dialogue with each other and individually with the viewer. One explores a palette of sunset pinks, the other of mossy greens and grey mist.
